Taking The Stage ® - Developing Women Leaders

Taking the Stage® was developed by The Humphrey Group for women who wish to become strong, confident leaders. We bring this exciting program to you in several formats: an enterprise program, a seminar, a workshop and a keynote talk. Taking the Stage® shows women how to become comfortable in the spotlight; unlock the power of their voice; create strong scripts; and achieve a dynamic presence.

These skills enable women to speak with strength on any 'stage' - from board rooms to meeting rooms, from town halls to phone calls.

The Enterprise Program

This video-based offering allows organizations to build the leadership capabilities of numbers of women across their enterprise – whether 200, 2,000 or 20,000 female employees. It is based on a Train-the-Trainer model that uses a set of four videos that are excerpted below.

Taking the Stage ®: Empowering Women Leaders Module 1: Choose to take the stage Module 2: Create a strong script Module 3: Unlock the power of your voice Module 4: Achieve a leader's presence Click on each image for a 30 second sample of our new Taking the Stage DVD

The program has three goals:

First, it develops female leaders. In a modular series of in-house workshops, participants learn how to (1) develop a leader's mind-set; (2) create strong scripts with powerful language; (3) unlock the power of their voice; and (4) achieve a dynamic presence on any "stage."

Second, it provides a structure for mentoring. The workshops are taught by women in your company who want to take on this mentoring/facilitation role and lead 15 other women through the program.

Third, it fosters networking. The Taking the Stage® self-directed corporate program brings women together not simply to learn new skills, but also to share their experiences and ideas, and provide mutual support.

Why Choose the Enterprise Program
There are several reasons to choose this format:

The Workshop Series

The Workshop Series is for companies that wish to have The Humphrey Group conduct the four-part Taking the Stage® series within their firm. Typically the Workshop format is for up to 200 women, in groups of 15.

This format may be an end in itself, or a stepping stone to an Enterprise rollout. The Humphrey Group delivers four video-based sessions on the client premises. The video modules used in the Enterprise program provide the basis for instruction in the Workshop Series. Each session is two hours long, spaced one month apart.

Why Choose the Workshop Series?
There are several reasons to choose this format:

  • It takes women through an intensive, four-step learning process that helps them speak confidently.
  • It provides for mid-size rollouts -it accommodates more women than the seminar, and fewer than the Enterprise Program.
  • It is taught by a senior instructor from The Humphrey Group -no need to train your own trainers.
  • It can provide a stepping stone to a larger, Enterprise rollout.

The In-House Seminar

Achieving a Leadership Presence
Women increasingly are playing a prominent role in private and public organizations, but they often do not know how to project a leadership presence. That's because women have been taught to listen, respond, and reinforce. This course shows women how to take the stage, and speak so others listen, believe, and follow them.

This intensive two-day course explores the challenges of working in environments where women have to move beyond traditional behaviours and seek recognition for their views. At the core of the seminar is The Humphrey Group's Leadership Model, which teaches participants how to deliver a clear, convincing message. This is a course about inspirational leadership.

Participants learn how to communicate effectively, and get their points across without sounding shrill, defensive, or tentative. They discover how to achieve a strong presence through message, words, eye contact, pace, body language, and voice. Actor-led workshops provide personalized coaching and each participant will be videotaped and given feedback several times during the course.

Participants will learn to:

  • Be assertive rather than aggressive.
  • Stop waiting in the "wings".
  • Psychologically take the stage.
  • Speak with a clear message.
  • Use powerful language.
  • Avoid female language "traps."
  • Develop a leader's voice.
  • Use powerful eye contact.
  • Adopt a confident physical presence.
