Challenge

McElhanney recognized an opportunity to strengthen how their IT leaders communicate with non-technical audiences. These subject matter experts often share highly technical information, leaving their audiences to determine what is most relevant. To improve the clarity and impact of their presentations, McElhanney aimed to equip their IT leaders with the skills to simplify complex updates into clear, concise messages that resonate with non-technical stakeholders, ensuring key points stand out.

Solution

McElhanney wanted a program that could offer their IT leaders practical tools to simplify their communication style without losing the depth of their technical expertise. We delivered Presenting as a Leader™, recognizing that it would provide a blend of hands-on learning and practical communication techniques to help them deliver complex messages more effectively. The program focused on teaching their leaders to create clear, easy-to-understand messages with a strong call to action, impactful visuals, and how to read and adjust to the needs of their audience when presenting. By focusing on these skills, McElhanney’s team gained the confidence to present technical content in a way that resonates with any audience.

Success

Initially, some participants were skeptical about the “less is more” approach to presenting. However, once they experienced the impact of focused messaging, less data, and fewer words on screen, they quickly embraced the approach. The training shifted their mindset, showing how prioritizing key information leads to more effective presentations. Presenting as a Leader™ provided them with the tools to simplify complex information while still delivering presentations that were clear, engaging, and actionable. Participants gained the skills to confidently deliver presentations that balanced clarity with substance.

Before the program, only 30% of participants felt confident in crafting audience-centered messages, and just 10% believed they could create visually appealing, easy-to-understand slide decks. After the training, these numbers soared to 83% and 100%, respectively. As one participant shared,
“The program has equipped me with the confidence and skills to structure my presentations effectively, achieve my goals, and facilitate meaningful discussions.”
